Rusted Root Carries On Their Spiritual Musical Movement with The Movement
Rusted Root’s current release “The Movement, means a new work ethic to me - it's going from the industrial age to the individual spiritual age. I feel everyone should devote all their actions to all that is love, healing and pragmatic. We’re seeing the growing pains of this right now...the world is split...some people are fearful and fighting it with all their might...Rusted Root is trying to help with this...this is our movement!!” shares Rusted Root founder, front man, songwriter, singer/guitarist Michael Glabicki. Having collaborated with one another for two decades, Rusted Root, has honed the perfect combination of musical intuition, freedom and virtuosity, which has allowed them to organically shape shift their music into their own distinct and undeniable vision. With eight albums under their belt, over three million records sold worldwide and countless nights on the road, Rusted Root, transcends age, generations, cultures and musical styles. Their music has been featured in films like Ice Age, Twister and Matilda, TV shows like New Girl, Ally McBeal, Charmed and Chuck as well as recent Enterprise Rent-A-Car commercials. Bassist and vocalist Patrick Norman says, “From the very first time we played music together, I knew we had something special. The music and the enjoyment of creating and playing with one another I feel is the driving force behind this band.” The powerhouse ensemble’s sweat-inducing and hypnotic live performances have allowed them to tour alongside everyone from Santana, Dave Matthews Band, The Allman Brothers Band, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page’s reunion tour and countless others. Rusted Root’s Shanachie debut, The Movement (10/30/12), is an energized and poetic collection of originals that capture the Pittsburgh based unit at their best.
One of the highlights on The Movement is the rhythmically charged and scintillating “In Our Sun.”The trance-like rhythmic patterns and Sub-Saharan drenched chanting reach a fevered pitch and then fade like a mirage. Liz explains that the members of Rusted Root are drawn to and have explored virtually every form of music. “I am very inspired vocally by anything from Indian to African to Middle Eastern sounds and scales having grown up with a lot of Hebrew music” she says. Michael Glabicki’s cites the Bee Gees, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Tony Childs, Black Keys, Black Sabbath and various Afro Pop music as among his influences. Glabicki’s vocals shine on the lilting ballad “Fossil Man,”and on “Fortunate Freaks” Rusted Root lets it all go and rocks out hard with the song’s energizing bridge. “Sun And Magic” showcases dazzling guitar and bass lines that shimmer like a summer breeze. Glabicki’s signature Tremelo picking and acoustic-electric guitar amplification shine throughout The Movement. Rusted Root gets down right gritty on “Up And All Around” while “Something’s On My Mind” continues to solidify their place as one of the most versatile and innovative bands on the creative music scene.
In 1992 Rusted Root released Cruel Sun independently and two years later, while signed to Mercury, they released their platinum-selling breakthrough, When I Woke, which spawned the Top 40 hit “Send Me On My Way,” that went on to chart on Billboard’s Hot 100. In 2004, the band released the double album Rusted Root Live on their own Touchy Pegg label, following the re-release of the newly re-mastered Cruel Sun in 2003. Rusted Root continued to tour relentlessly between the release of Cruel Sun and the 2009 release of Stereo Rodeo.
The past few years have found Rusted Root on a never-ending tour. A major career highlight in the Springtime of 2014 and 2015 was touring with The Wailers Michael Glabicki says, “The Wailers are what music in it’s spiritual form is about and I feel it was an honor to play with them” And bassist Patrick Norman effuses “They’re legends, they’re icons, it’s rock and roll. It brings back memories of being five years old listening to I shot the Sherriff.”
As they have in the past, Rusted Root is currently working on their next record by honing their new songs while on tour. Already fan favorites, “Save Me Back”“Promised Land”“Such A Man”and “Tumbleweed” are some of the new tracks they’ve been performing to an audience eager for new record. The band is looking forward to putting the finishing touches on their new collection of songs, and aim to release a new record in the next year.
Original Roots Rock, Blues Rock, and Jam with a healthy dash of Americana and Southern Rock, is a sound Waydown Wailers label as Outlaw Jam".
Waydown Wailers are a band that is on the top of the innovative music scene now pouring from a cool North American spigot. Streaming like a refreshing blast of harmony over a burnout music wary countryside, the Waydown Wailers are boldly original, tunefully deep, and forever lingering."
Another family affair, (a North American tradition) brothers Dave (guitar/lead vocals) and Christian Parker (lead guitar) have not played together in a band until this harmonious bug bit them, and the rest of the tribe: Michael Scriminger (drums/percussion) and Connor Pelkey (bass backing vocals) welded the circle complete. Four guys carving individual niches into every nook and cranny of the North American music landscape and collectively producing a dazzling band even stronger than the sum of its harmonies.
Just groove to their music and you'll instantly identify a unique resonance defined by rock-hard lyrics, great musicianship, and hand-clapping, foot-stomping melodies. Everything they create brands the consciousness. Songs dissecting the discontented soul of a bitter land of liberty stand strong alongside ballads of aching hearts worn admirably on their sleeves. This is the kind of band that begins as a smoldering local event and before you know it, rapidly transforms into a blazing national trend.
The Waydown Wailers is a band of dreamers that in vision a sound that they personally want to inhabit, something that gets their hearts pumping before releasing it on a cover-beaten, musically famished public. Dave Parker's vocals are right on, crisp and oh so deliciously addictive. It's his signature phrasing that hooks you fast, keeps you transfixed and in the mix. And oh what a mix it is with Mike Scriminger's funk/ rock drum flare to Connor Pelkey's eccentric bass spouting funk and dare I say world beat slaps and pops while Christian Parker is another hot-lightening picker not afraid to add his eclectic style, it's all to hell n' back and truly defining the phrase "he's got chops." These are some badass players, musicians that really love the art.
After years of paths crossing and performing in a succession of bands, Waydown Wailers started based on the mutual desire by all four for an original sound and songs that were different. “We wanted to be in an all original band and, together we decided to commit to a new band. We continued to work on some melodies together and arranging some music to go with some lyrical ideas that were swimming around in Dave’s head,” says WW.

Songs were picked and worked on from afar and it wasn’t until the first day of recording that Waydown Wailers and Prof Louie met face to face in the studio to work on the debut album, “State Of The Union” (2013 Woodstock Records).
