Sister Sparrow and The Dirty Birds:
Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds is an eight piece powerhouse that puts a modern spin on classic soul. The band is led by Arleigh Kincheloe (Sister Sparrow), whose astoundingly powerful voice and sly demeanor make for a spellbinding presence onstage. She is backed by the mighty force of The Dirty Birds, a flock of seven men who masterfully lay down thundering grooves and soaring melodies. While each of the Birds are capable of lighting up the stage with jaw dropping displays of musicianship, it’s clear they’re focused on delivering the band’s infectious music as a single entity. Simply put, the band’s live show is explosive.
Often compared to the likes of Tori Amos for her fairy esthetic and classical roots, Tom Waits for her dark and literary lyrics, and Carole King for her Tin Pan Alley Pop sensibility – Upstate NY native, Amanda Rogers, has continued her 15+ year musical journey on her self-paved career path as an original and independent touring and recording artist. With 9 albums in tow, including her latest 2014 double-album release “WILD”, Multiple international tours solo as well as with a full rock band and as a folk duo, notable press, recognition for a song reaching the International Top 100 billboard charts, numerous guest appearances, song placements on networks such as the Discovery channel and MTV, and a list of musical celebrity fans that are all name-dropper worthy, she still maintains her desire to evolve as a Singer-Songwriter without boundaries while remaining “uncompromisingly d.i.y”. Currently in the studio for her 10th Solo album with backing band Goodkids, Amanda’s new sound does not stray far from her familiar pop for which she is recognized, instead only adds heavy hitting soul back beats, tasty organ parts, and more reckless abandon vocally to further support her bluesy piano licks and clever lyrics set to melodies that submerge you into the deep then pulls you back to the blue yonder for a breath of fresh air from the digital, quantized, auto-tuned era of music. This new album is already conjuring up comparisons to Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians, and Kings Of Leon. “a female hybrid of Elliott Smith, John Lennon, and Neil Young – An old soul singing from a sincere and untamed place in her heart.” Her recordings are often labeled as “lo-fi bedroom ambience”, “chamber-pop”, “Pop with a dash of folk and blues” and her live performances are described as “raw and emotional”, “haunting”, “quirky and delicate as well as powerfully moving”. “An accomplished and versatile songwriter and pianist, timid when she takes the stage, her first fragile notes transform into clear soul-resonating melodies”.
